As I am apt to do while driving anywhere, I am always looking and noticing opportunities to paint light and how it interacts with the environment. Not always a safe thing to do while driving, I know, but when you paint, it’s hard to not always be looking. I saw this grouping of abandoned buildings as I was passing through Myerstown, PA and noticed how the late morning light was shining through an opening between them. The late fall light was not only creating the contrast of light and shadow but warm and cool hues within the scene. I am noticing more and more how there is something about the light in late fall that can be quite pleasing in landscapes. I also have an attraction to abandoned abandoned buildings, especially when they sit along busy roads and no one seems to pay any mind to them.  I find myself thinking about the memories that may have occurred in houses like this one.
