I believe just before the pandemic started early 2020, I began to walk as much as I could to and from my office each day. Then, of course, we went to working from home for a spell but I would still try to walk each day the same duration which was roughly 45 minutes. Beyond being a good way to get some sort of exercise, another benefit is that you notice more things around you at the slower pace of a walk. As I was approaching the one neighborhood I walked through, the sun was setting and was astounding in its last moments before totally slipping behind the horizon.
Sunsets can be spectacular in their beauty and are some of the more difficult moments for me to capture in paint. Trying to capture the many subtleties and nuances that occur to make that moment what it was is something I will continue to try to paint but never quite attain. If you don't paint but what an idea of how difficult it is, just try to verbally describe a sunset to another person in a way they truly see what you saw. Even photographs seem to often fall short of the actual event. Anyway, it is still enjoyable to try to see what one can do with paint.
