One of my favorite drives for collecting scenes for painting is driving east or west on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. I would say the best section probably occurs after crossing the Susquehanna River going west after you get into the more rural farmland areas. There is just this wonderful mix of rolling farmland and wooded hills with old barns and other structures mixed in.
This particular scene somewhere after the Route 11 Carlisle Exit. There is this nice view over the valley facing north and on this particular day, there were constant storm clouds moving through. I loved not only the drama in the clouds but also how the landscape had strong interesting visula patterns created by the fields and tree lines.
