In this particular scene, we were camped below the Crestone Needles which is a pretty well known group of peaks in Colorado. Sitting around the fire in the evening, it was discussed by some in the camp to get up before the crack of dawn and climb up to the upper lake and catch the sunrise.
I did not make it up to the lake but I could see the sunlight hitting the granite faces from our camp site. It is an absolutely spectacular moment when the sun first hits these faces. The moment does not last long at all (most beautiful moments in life don't) but as the sun rises to its zenith the light and color changes that occur on the rock are spectacular. It is almost like watching the hand of god wielding a brush and painting en plein air for all to see.
Thank you for capturing the moment McRobert sisters!
